GIVE LOVE

Love is the greatest gift. It brings warm light to the cold darkness and offers hope where before there was none.

Love changes lives. Even though it has no logical reason to be, love persists after all else has faded.

Love is lighter than the smallest snowflake and stronger than the mightiest army. With love, the impossible becomes real.

What is built and nurtured with love can withstand any challenge. Love understands, enables, protects and inspires.

The more love you give away, the more you will have. In love is the power of patience and the freedom of forgiveness.

On this day of Christmas giving, choose to offer the greatest, most meaningful and lasting gift you can give. With every word, with every thought, with every gesture, with every interaction, give love.

You have a way with words… and a talent for drawing the pure emotions out of experiences.

You Are 55% Normal

Image

While some of your behavior is quite normal…
Other things you do are downright strange
You’ve got a little of your freak going on
But you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself !

How to Enjoy Life's Special Pleasures

Image

Yes, indeed -- life is short. But it is never too late to fully realize how precious our time on Earth really is.

Joni Rodgers learned this the hard way. In 1994, the then-32-year-old drama teacher and mother of two children, ages five and seven, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the immune-system cancer.

For six months, Rodgers underwent a grueling course of chemotherapy treatments, along with naturopathic methods -- but she never lost her capacity for humor, compassion and insight.

Rodgers, now 41, has been in remission for seven years. Here she shares the lessons of her harrowing journey -- and tells what we all can do to live fuller and more joyous lives...

EMBRACE WHAT YOU HAVE

Before I had cancer, I was a perfectionist. I missed out on lots of fun becauseof my too-high expectations about the way things should be regarding my marriage, children and career. Example: My husband, Gary, is an airplane mechanic who works the night shift. For a long time, I really hated his absences from home. After I had cancer, I realized how little this matters. I learned to appreciate the time we spend together on weekends and in the mornings rather than resent the time he is away. Now I'm unsympathetic when people moan about not having enough money or being in a bad marriage. If you're not happy, do something about it -- or learn to appreciate what you have. You sometimes will hear that someone "lost the battle" with cancer. To me, if they embraced happiness, they won, whether they lived to 32 or 92.

ENJOY YOUR PLEASURES

You are not wasting time when you watch TV, sleep late or otherwise do nothing. Wasting time is when you are not loving someone or not enjoying your life. I have discovered how to take pleasure in the simplest things. Even when I am sitting quietly or taking a long drive, there is always something interesting to look at or think about.

LOVE WHO YOU ARE

Like many women, I always wished I was thinner. If I could go back, I wouldn't obsess about something so trivial. The tragic irony is that I lost 40 pounds during my cancer treatments -- and wished every one of those pounds back. Now I treat my body well. I exercise and eat right -- not to lose weight, but to stay healthy.

FIND FORGIVENESS

We waste a lot of time and energy harboring grudges. My breakthrough: A few years ago, I ran into the doctor who had first misdiagnosed my cancer as premenstrual syndrome. When I saw him, I was consumed with hatred. Then I realized that just getting angry was not going to change anything. So I wrote him a letter explaining how I felt. I never heard back from him, but writing the letter allowed me to let go of the anger.

 FOCUS ON INTENTIONS... NOT WORDS

When someone has cancer, people often make inappropriate statements, such as, "We could all die tomorrow" or "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."At first, such comments annoyed me. Then I realized that these people were struggling to say the right things but didn't know how. When someone says something that annoys you, give him/her the benefit of the doubt. Look past the words to find the loving intent.

SEE THE HUMOR

Cancer isn't funny -- but there are some funny moments. Gary and I tried to see the humor whenever possible. Example: I always had a good laugh when Gary would come up behind me, move his hands over my bald head and say, "Look deep into the crystal ball. I see dinner at the Chinese buffet, followed by a long and healthy life." Laughter relieves stress and gives us strength to face the challenges ahead.

TAKE COMFORT IN PRAYER

Many people think they don't know how to pray. Just think of God as a great river that runs through the universe. The idea of prayer is not to pull God out of the stream but to put yourself into the stream with God.

I’ve just added two poems to my site. The first is a rondeau poem called Green Hills Of Erin. I have never been to Ireland but I’ve always thought it looks really beautiful in photos and I wrote this poem when I was imagining how I might feel about it if it was my homeland. To read Green Hills Of Erin click here. The second poem is called Snatched Away and is about my brother in-law Mick who died when he was only 36 years old. I wrote it 7 1/2 years after he died when I had a vivid dream about when I was sitting with him in the intensive care unit and woke up feeling like it had just happened. You can read it here.

I’ve also added another page to the unicorn gallery. This page features the wonderful custom made graphic set that was part of the prize package I received when my poem, called Friend, won first place in the Moonglade Designs 2005 poetry contest. I’ve also had some fun with applets on this page and it has a water applet, a snow applet and, one I’ve never used before, a colour rotating applet. I hope you enjoy it! Click on the unicorn at right to be magically taken there 🙂 Image

I’m also very happy to announce that my cinquain entitled Untarnished won first place in the 4th quarter 2005 Little Bitty Poetry Competition. Untarnished isn’t on my website as yet but you can read it, along with the poems that placed second and third, here. I’d also like to let you know that two of my recent cinquain poems are appearing in the current issue of Amaze: The Cinquain Journal. They are titled Writer’s Block and Nightmare and you can check out the issue they’re in here.

You scored 122!
From time to time you may have a feeling of not belonging. You probably have a few very close friends, who find some of your ideas to be quite weird. You seem to have the spirit and wish to change this place for the better, although you are realistic about the odds of succeeding. If you manage to not get disappointed further, you might very well inspire those around you.

My test tracked 1 variable – How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 63% on earthpoints

I’m excited to announce that my poems are now available on plaques and canvas or as printable .pdf files.

Just choose one of the many beautiful backgrounds to go with your poem of choice and then preview how they look together or, if you prefer, you can select from designs that I have already made up.

The photo above is an example of a plaque in which the poem is dry mounted on MDF board and then sealed with a vinyl laminate to protect it.

The photo below is an example of the poem being printed on canvas using the giclee process. The plaque is printed on matte canvas and then stretch mounted for easy hanging.

Or you can simply get the poem, with the background you’ve chosen, as a .pdf file and print it out. These look great framed!
